Royal Hemp

Logo Design, Branding, and Packaging Design

Royal Hemp is a cannabis company based in Nashville, TN. Thanks to the passing of pro-cannabis legislation, they sell pre-made cannabis products. When they first came to me, Royal Hemp was new on the scene, needing a company logo and product packaging.

The Brief

Most companies in this industry prefer to use lots of different colors, elaborate fonts, and one-off design profiles. Clean and consistent design was the way to cut through the competitors and set themselves apart. To further emphasize the quality of their product, Royal Hemp wanted the aesthetic to feel regal, high-class and refined.

The Logo

My solution was to utilize recognizable symbols of monarchy and the Medieval Period and combine them with a limited color palette. For the logo, I chose to start with a crown as the primary icon, with the cap of the crown subtly resembling a cannabis bud. Then, a warm gold gradient washed over the logo, a fixture of luxury brands. Gem tones then serve as the foundation for the logo variations, each a potential option for alternate flavors, strains, and rolling papers. They include amber, ruby, onyx, silver, emerald, and sapphire.

The Packaging

To reinforce the brand’s sophistication, I based the general composition of the label on the classic sticker found on fine cigars. A strong ellipse enthrones the logo, while radial lines or light and refinement emanate outward. To the left and right, a sceptre and sword flank the label. Medieval-style banners draw attention to important information about the CBD and THC content as well as other legal and safety information.
